This urban jungle provides a vision of what the future may hold for British gardens.

Research suggests that temperatures could rise of as much as 5.8 degrees centigrade over the next 100 years. Meanwhile, the introduction of new hardy and half-hardy exotics to the UK offers to bring a touch of the tropics to any garden.

This garden hasn’t been built yet, but if you would like to have it in your outdoor space, give Ruth a call and she will happily adapt the design for your site.

A crescent cork path separates a manicured, circular lawn from lush tropical foliage emblazoned with splashes of bright blooms and striking architectural forms. Though little used in British gardens, cork makes a beautiful surface that is both attractive and durable. It won’t rot, repels insects, and is a completely natural material.     At the end of the path, a series of geodesic domes protect more tender plants and provide refuge from inclement British weather. Various different materials can be used to make domes to suit your budget. Wood, aluminium, glass, steel, plastic and canvas can all be used. The dome shown is from www.solardome.co.uk    This is a garden that makes bold use of large plants in a small plot, and yet creates space to breathe, room to move, and a means of escape from everyday troubles.
