This winning show garden, designed for Channel 4’s Great Garden Challenge, represents the historical journey made by early explorers through the New Zealand landscape.
Different parts of the garden reflect different habitats with seaside and coastal plants leading on to aromatic Manuka scrub where bees gather pollen for their honey. The Maori Moko-inspired path divides, leading to a small clearing with plants from damp and shady places, bogs and swamps. Beyond, past tussock grasses, a curving raised boardwalk rises up among exotic blades and fronds, while lush ground ferns spread in the shade below. |
